the awkward thing about returning to office

let me be entirely clear that i think the whole "movement" to return to office is a stupid-ass attempt to control workers and justify real estate and i don't think it's practical in a lot of ways

but the thing is that i like. actually like working in person. i'm one of those deranged people that does better working in person. wfh works better for a lot of neuroatypical people... if executed well, but of course everyone's working hard to make remote work miserable also. like yeah great now i have to make constant eye contact with a whole screen of faces on a zoom call or someone will think i'm inattentive. sure awesome now i'm expected to be on the ball immediately on workday start rather than getting some time to settle in and remember what i was doing.

i also depend a lot on body language cues for my hard-won ability to read people, so it's a lot easier for me to get to know new people face-to-face. i mean i also want to be the IT person in a cave where i don't see people much but like, you know.

anyway all this is to say it's kind of nice to like, get a little out and about, do some movement, and not be over-surveilled to make sure i'm "engaged"
